Blocked drain

Reported via desktop in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category by Paul Cooper at 17:11, Sunday 14 January 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5441710.

The roadside drain by the entrance to Lidham Farm and next to 'Windy Corner' at TN354LW has been reported multiple times over the years, (and emptying the gully does not cure it), resulting in flooding of the A259 east bound carriageway. The last contractors said there is a blockage in the actual drain pipe, which needs digging out. That was 3 months ago, and still the highway floods in heavy rain. If someone dies as a result of this flooding, we will inform the family of your dereliction of duty.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report. We can confirm the drainage outside Lidham Farm isn’t within our maintainable boundary and is the responsibility of the local authority. The gulley at the entrance of Windy Corner where the metal gate is located is the first drain on our network bordering the local authority’s boundary. Our records show this drain was last emptied under cyclical maintenance on 22 March 2023 with further maintenance taking place a further 2 times on the 21 September 2023 and again on 19 October 2023. Following this it was identified that there seems to be a blockage within the pipework at this location between our drainage and the local authorities’ network. Whilst we can’t provide a time frame, we ‘re currently in the process of trying to obtain a find and fix survey of the piped network at this location (subject to funding) to identify the reason of the blockage and how it can be cleared. This may include the top end of the local authority’s network as this may be affecting the collection of surface water of our drainage assets. In the meantime, our team are aware of the issue and will be continuing to monitor the area. Kind Regards National Highways
