M62 Eastbound between junction 36 and 37

Reported via mobile in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 18:27, Fri 12 January 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5435747.

There’s a 30 mph limit in place NO workers whatsoever are present at any time the 30 mph limit is absolutely ridiculous for a motorway, change it to 50 mph NOW BEFORE I FIND WHOS RESPONSIBLE 👊

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding your query about the 30mph enforced speed limit over Ouse Bridge on the M62. The 30mph speed limit over the bridge is in place due to the reduced lane widths required to accommodate the two lanes in either direction, together with the barrier to segregate the traffic. In addition to this both the crossover points and the temporary bridging plates across the damaged joint on the eastbound carriageway are most safely trafficked at 30mph due to the crossover topography and running undulations over the ramps

The speed limits are there to protect both the travelling public together with the workforce.

I recognise that the speed restrictions have been in for a while, and we appreciate your patience. The lengthy design and manufacturing process to produce a new set of bespoke joints to replace the failed and failing ones is now complete and the scaffolding system below the structure is currently being constructed. The decision has been made to make efficient use of the traffic management and replace the joints throughout the bridge.

I am sorry that you will therefore have to continue maintaining a slow speed over the River Ouse whilst we complete the work.

Thank you again for contacting us.

    Kind regards National Highways
