Vegetation growing on the central reservation

Reported via mobile in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 18:57, Tue 2 January 2024

Sent to National Highways 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 5382099.

Between jct 6 and jct 9 the central reservation gullies are filled with debris tyres wheel trims and plants growing and blocking the gullies. This is causing standing water. They have been like this for over 12 months. Why have they not been cleaned out? I originally reported this on 02/11/23 No reply from you for over 2 months. Standing water warnings today and this is because you are not cleaning the gutters on the central reservation. It’s not difficult to send a road sweeper to clean this up. Maybe send it out at 2pm north bound it wouldn’t cause any disruption because the traffic is moving so slowly anyway.

Updates

  • Thank you for making your report. We asked our inspection team to attend this location and assess the issue. There is no concerning debris blocking drains. There are a few blocked gullies/catch pits northbound between Perry Barr and junction 7. We have raised work to clear these grids that are covered over with leaves.

We're currently clearing all of the drainage and debris/detritus between junctions 5-10 on the M6 verge and centres, we have started at Junction 5 (4 weeks ago) and working North to junction 10, this will continue over the next 2-3 months as there is a lot of work involved to get the drainage system back to a maintainable position, we're also cleansing the underslung drainage beneath the structures as well.

Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.

    Kind regards National Highways
