The VMS signs aren't on

Reported via mobile in the Electronic Sign (NH) category anonymously at 17:07, Tue 2 January 2024

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5381077.

As you travel along the M4 westbound the VMS signs are turned off through the roadworks and the road signs associated with the roadworks give you the speed limit.

The roadworks then finish in a VMS area on M5 but there is no indication what the speed limit is, as the VMS signs aren't turned on.

It's just very confusing.

Updates

  • Thank you for your enquiry.

The VMS signs in this area are dynamic. If they are not showing anything, then the speed limit will be national speed limit. The VMS signs are only switched on as and when needed to help the flow of traffic, therefore will not always be lit.

I hope this answers your question.

    Kind regards Michelle Collins
