Blocked drain, flood water
Reported via mobile in the Flooding/drainage (NH) category anonymously at 11:15, Tuesday 2 January 2024
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5377233.
Storm Water is not being taken away by the storm drain, and there is a large pool that covers the first lane of the dual-carriageway, lay-by, and the pavement in front of my house, New Buildings, Stafford Road, Coven Heath, WV10 7HF. The traffic is causing a wave of water to splash up the front of our houses, and is coming in through my front door. I have air-bricks below pavement level into the cellar area, and it is at risk of being flooded. I need about 6 sandbags to protect my property from immediate flooding. Rain is forecast all day. The drains are not taking the water away as quickly as it needs to. Please treat as urgent. This has been happening from 8am, and is now 11.10am. This has been occurring in heavy rainfall events over recent years. It is an ongoing issue. I just need sandbags to protect my property. I can provide photographs.

After contacting Highways another 4 times, a gully sucker was sent and it took them 3 hours to remove over 90000 litres . Staff had to physically stand at the back of the Highways truck and wave cars to move them into the outside lane, so they would be prevented from speeding through the pool in the inside flooded lane, which was causing a wave to splash against our houses. Traffic management cones would've been more effective, and safer for the crews. There were 6 houses that had water up to 2metres from their doors. We badly need sandbags to prevent water reaching inside our cellars. 19.05

Thank you for contacting National Highways.
We would like to confirm our inspectors have been in contact with you and are arranging a visit for later this week to provide sandbags. We hope that this improves any future experience you have using this road.
Kind regards
