Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about lighting and signage on the M58 junctions 3 and 4.

The M58 is mainly unlit to help us support the aims of the Department for Transport to reduce carbon emissions by switching off lighting on carefully selected stretches of motorway. Sites have been chosen where there is a good safety record and where analysis shows that the lights can be switched off without increasing risks to road user safety.

Motorways signs are made using retroreflective technology, as part of the switch off signage is assessed and upgraded if necessary to the correct reflective material. Retroreflective signs use a surface that reflects light making them easy to see at dawn, dusk or night.

    Kind regards National Highways
