Street light just north of Church Lane on west of road not working

Updates

  • I did not make this report (Ref: 5356169) but pease take note that there are *TWO* streetlights next to each other that are not working on the northbound carriageway of the A23 Brighton Road in HOOLEY near the pedestrian crossing and where Church Lane joins the Brighton Rd. DANGEROUS * They have been inoperative since and throughout last winter, 2023. * That pedestrian crossing (near Starbucks) is an accident blackspot. I'm pretty certain there have been fatalities. Traffic coming off the dual carriageway is funnelled into single file. Vehicles are often travelling over the 40mph speed limit. * The bus stop just north of Church Lane is swathed in darkness at night. Has been for over a year. I have to stand almost on the road waving my phone's torch light about to get the bus driver's attention while traffic speeds past. This is not acceptable and has been a danger to the public for a very long time. I reported it myself to the Highways Agency on 18 December, 2024 and was issued with 'Log Number: 2131'. It is not clear to me that this has yet been properly logged as other references look different, nor that the requisite urgent remedial work will be carried out. I'll wait until January and chase this up again but if there's still no action I'll have to contact the local MP. .

  • Just had a second phone call from Sophie (after one a few days ago) at National Highways who said they are liaising with subcontractors and energy suppliers. Sophie advised that there had been a gas leak requiring the electricity supply to be turned off. Clearly it was not reconnected. She added that the parties involved are hoping to get both street lamps fixed some time in April and kindly offered to phone me in the second week of April to let me know how things are progressing.
