• Thank you for your report on the National Highways Fix My Steet website on 10 December 2023 regarding a pothole just after junction 65 on the southbound carriageway of the A1. Thank you for reporting this pothole near to the A1 Birtley to Coal House scheme. We have an onsite Traffic Safety Control Officer (TSCO), who patrols the scheme and its diversion routes regularly both during the day and night. Part of their duty is to monitor the condition of the surface to ensure that any defects are reported and filled as soon as possible. We temporarily repair any smaller carriageway defects as they are reported and then follow this up with a more permanent repair when we have access. We have upcoming planned closures for overnight patching repair works on Friday 15 December (northbound carriageway) and Saturday 16 December (southbound carriageway). These closures will enable the team to repair the carriageway until the full resurfacing plans commence next year. Thanks again for contacting us, we hope that the above information has been helpful.
