Lane Closure Since July 23

Reported via desktop in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 21:44, Sun 12 November 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5202964.

Since July 23 Lane 1 between J4-3 Eastbound has been either coned off temporarily bit now appears permanently closed for surveys with a 50mph speed limit and daily delays. Is there an end planned or is it the end of 4 lanes there?

Updates

  • We appreciate you getting in touch with us, and we apologise that these works caused disruption to your journey. We understand that closing parts of a motorway is disruptive and it’s not a decision we take lightly. The lane closure on this section of the M3 was implemented so we could investigate road surface depressions in lane one that were identified following a routine inspection. The current lane one closure is required to protect the safety of the travelling public and to permit specialist surveys, and to undertake investigation of all elements of the drainage system under the carriageway. Whilst lane one closure is in place, a 50mph speed limit has been applied to the three open lanes to reflect a reduction in the lane capacity. This is in accordance with traffic management standards. At present we’re unable to provide an update of the timeframe for when lane one can be safely re-opened. Please be assured that once all surveys are completed and reviewed a programme of works will be carried out to allow us to reopen the lane safely. We apologise for any inconvenience that this delay may cause. Kind regards National Highways
