The white lines, especially when wet are impossible to see
Reported via mobile in the Faded / Hard to see (NH) category by Graham Harvey at 11:38, Sun 5 November 2023
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5175802.
The motorway floods between jct 5 and 7 when it rains, with the sun in your eyes and subsequent glare combined with the road markings which are very faint leads to people following the old black lines and thus drivers merging into other lanes blindly.
This is incredible dangerous and will lead to a serious accident.
The lines need to be repainted urgently and following that, the drainage addressed/resurfaced to remove the current concrete surface to tarmac.
Failure to do so will lead to a serious injury or fatality imminently.

So dangerous! Only a waiting game until something fatal happens!

Agreed, very dangerous. Seen people straddle both lanes for a few miles. Only matter if time before two vehicles collide as the seams are so dominant in bright sunshine. Self driving cars are the worse as they swerve and phantom break as they think the seams are the lane markings.

I’d like to thank you for bringing this issue to our attention and I apologise confusion these road markings are causing. We really appreciate the information and feedback we receive, and value the perspective you bring as someone who uses our network. I’m pleased to report that we do have plans to address this issue in the coming year. An overlay scheme will be replacing the existing concrete with tarmac to address the driving experience and the difficulty with visibility due to the glare from the sun. For further information I’ve included a link to our webpage where all of our updates can be found https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ our-roads/ south-east/ m27-junction-5-to-7-concrete-overlay/
