Incorrect road closure due to lights failure - easy resolution

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 15:52, Fri 3 November 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5171651.

Previously when the lights were out due to a controller damaged, the roads crossing the A63 on the Gyratory were closed/restricted. Traffic restrictions should change to be A63 fully open both ways, and all traffic wanting to cross on gyratory, use onslips and divert around either Mount Pleasant roundabouts or Daltry Street roundabout. Currently the A63 closure is causing a major problem across Hull

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways on Monday 3rd November, raising your concerns with network closures on the A63.

Decisions to close the road are not made lightly, and we would only do so to ensure the safety of our road users, or operatives carrying out work on the network.

On Friday 3rd November, there were planned closures on Hull City Council operated roads, along Beverley Road / A1079, more information can be found at; https://news.hull.gov.uk/ 03/ 11/ 2023/ remembrance-day-road-closures-plus-weekly-traffic-and-travel-update-03-november/

There have been some known issues with lighting on the A63, in which there was no lighting eastbound between Ferensway and Market Place. This issue has now been resolved, with additional power connections being utilised.

Diversion routes are pre-planned in conjunction with local authorities and we always look to minimise disruption. Sometimes closing the network completely is essential for carrying out vital work. We do appreciate that there may have been some impact on your journey time, when using a diversion route.

  • Good Morning,

Sorry for the delay in response on this. After looking into this incident further, it appears that traffic management measures were put into place by Amey for work further down the network.

This however, did have a knock-on effect on the A63 Castle Street scheme and this has been taken on board for the future.

I hope the information provided has been useful, if you would like to contact us again, please feel free to email the scheme inbox - a63castlestreet.hull@nationalhighways.co.uk

    Kind regards,

    Jack
