Blocked Drains

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 14:17, Sun 29 October 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5149667.

The three or so drains on the Northbound Slip road onto the A34 from the A4130 are completely blocked. This is causing the bottom of the slip road to flood, sometimes covering both carriageways after heavy rain. The drains all need clearing out to stop the flooding, especially before Winter

Updates

  • No drainage present on the slip road before joining the A34 northbound at the MILTON INTERCHANGE. It doesn’t take much rain to cause this slip road to flood really badly and dangerously. The water is at least 1 ft deep. The water gets really deep and does not drain away. Due to the camber and gradient of the road the water doesn’t drain away and sits on the road surface causing cars to aqua plain dangerously swerving between both lanes. There is a risk this standing water will turn to ice in the colder weather over the next few weeks and months.

  • Almost every drain in oxfordshire is blocked at this point. The problem is really one of road sweeping. Leaves fall off trees at the same time every year. They aren't swept up and eventually all end up in drains causing them to block. The drains then stay blocked. This has been the case across the county for several years since the lockdown. Unfortunately, basic maintenance and safety for local people is not a high priority for this council. Instead they are more interested in being climate-change warriors or refugee saviours.
