Airport roundabout second lane the road has become dangerous and can cause damage

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 20:53, Wed 18 October 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5111729.

Approaching the roundabout heading towards the airport there is a section of the road which has become uneven and will cause damage to vehicles, it’s been like this for months and nothing has been done about it and it’s only growing. Most vehicles keep on the left lane and sharply turn into the middle lane after the pothole which will in time cause an accident. Sort it!

Updates

  • Thank you for your report of 18 October 2023 about the road surface on the A696 on approach to Newcastle Airport. We understand your concerns and appreciate the time you’ve taken to contact us about this.

After investigating your enquiry, we can advise that we’re aware of the issues you’ve highlighted in your report. We’re close to finalising a resurfacing scheme in this area. These works will see renewal of the surface on approach to the airport including the roundabout highlighted, and various slip roads along this route. Once we acquire approval, work is expected to commence in November-December 2023. However, because we’re awaiting approval this date is subject to change.

So you can anticipate these works, we wish to share our road closure report tool. This provides details of roadworks up to a week in advance. You can access this here:
