The carcass of a dead muntjac deer

Reported via desktop in the Off the carriageway (NH) category anonymously at 16:18, Tue 17 October 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5107265.

A14 Eastbound - The section of road between Junction 53 Whitehouse and Junction 52 Claydon.

There presently exists the dead carcass of a rather large muntjac deer. This muntjac deer carcass is actually lying on the highway verge / edge of carriageway behind the solid white line.

Altough the removal of this deer carcass does not require an immediate response, could it still please be removed within the next seven working days.

Updates

  • Hello

I would now like to make an alteration to the National Highways report that I sent yesterday afternoon.

The carcass of this dead muntjac deer is actually located on the westbound carriageway and NOT the eastbound one.

    Regards - Philip

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the animal on the A14 westbound carriageway.

Safety is our highest priority and any animals on the carriage way that pose a risk to vehicles and their occupants will be removed as quickly and safely as possible.

Household pets, such as a dogs and cats, will be retrieved, and we endeavour to reunite pets with their owners if they can be identified through microchips or other identification. Wild animals, lying off the carriageway, on verges or the central reservation, are normally left to naturally decay unless they are a particular hazard, a danger to public health or there is a statutory obligation for testing or removal.

Our local inspector team will make these assessments during their regular safety inspections.

    Kind regards National Highways

    State changed to: Internal referral
