At the point where the road changes for the roadworks, cats eyes are not bright enough or old markings are not erased to show the change in road for roadworks.

Reported via mobile in the Cat Eyes/ Reflectors (NH) category anonymously at 06:07, Sun 15 October 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5098254.

Seen and been involved in many a near accident where drivers in the 2nd lane approaching the roadworks don't realise the change and carry on with the old lane markings and veer into the 3rd lane of the new lane markings without realising. Can the old lane marking be removed for the time being?

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about road markings on the M5.

We've removed the original lane lining detail and laid the new lane layout with coloured stick on road studs. This is standard practice for temporary lane markings for major Traffic Management schemes.

When the sunlight catches the blacked-out markings it can sometimes cause a glare and so they aren’t always as visible as they should be, depending on the position of sunlight.

We recognise the issue and are looking to improve the temporary lining at this location during the next full M5 closure. Baring any unforeseen circumstances this is anticipated to take place in the next 7-10 days.

We monitor the Traffic Management on a daily basis.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
