Grid lock on the roundabout heading south towards Newark

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category by Karl Nelsomn at 19:45, Wed 11 October 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5087905.

This issue does not fit any of your categories so you should consider revising them.

I live on a small estate just off Skellingthrope Road which lies south east of of the roundabout.

The problem is vehicles, on the bypass, heading towards Newark are queueing on the roundabout and blocking the exit from Skellingthorpe Road onto the roundabout meaning that cars cannot go across the roundabout (for Skellingthorpe village) or right at the roundabout (towards Lincoln). This leads to unacceptable delays.

One solution would be to create a "yellow box" on the roundabout to stop vehicles blocking the exit from Skellingthorpe Road.

The queueing on the roundabout seems to be caused by traffic having to merge to a single lane after the roundabout having been on a dual carriageway before reaching the roundabout. Another solution would be to make the traffic have to merge before the roundabout instead of after it so taht traffic already on the roundabout could flow more smoothly off it. This would mean making the right hand lane approaching the roundabout (from Lincoln) a right turn only (for Skellingthorpe) and blocking off the right hand lane exit to continue on the A46 towards Newark.

Adopting both these solutions would be fairly cheap and stop these unecessary details for traffic trying to exit from Skellingthorpe Road.
