Lots of litter and some bricks

Reported via desktop in the Layby/ Emergency Area (NH) category anonymously at 19:57, Fri 6 October 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5070616.

Huge amount of litter/brinks on the foot/cycle path. Difficult for cyclists/walkers to avoid when out cycling/walking the length of this pathway. It is absolutely disgusting the amount of stuff littering the path and verges. It has gradually got much worse over this summer. I see it every day on my daily cycle ride.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about litter. We have attended the location to ensure no bricks are obstructing the footpath. We are aware that there are issues with litter along the A2 and are currently planning further litter picks in the area over the coming months. Littering by people is, unfortunately, a behaviour that has a big impact on some parts of our roads. We aim to keep our roads as tidy and free of litter as we can. Our litter picking is carefully planned to try to minimise the impact it has on road users and the safety of our people. Litter picks often require lane closures, which are disruptive to traffic flow. To help reduce the frequency of this disruption, where we can, we usually combine our reactive litter picks with other maintenance work which can result in what appears to be a delayed response. Kind regards National Highways
