The lane closure on this section of the M3 was implemented so we could investigate road surface depressions in lane one that were identified following a routine inspection. The current lane one closure is required to protect the safety of the travelling public and to permit specialist surveys and investigations to be undertaken to allow a repair scheme to be developed and constructed. This type of survey takes a while to organise and then analyse, but it’s important that we do this to prevent further disruption in the future. While the lane 1 closure is in place, a 50mph speed limit will be applied to the three open lanes to reflect a reduction in the lane capacity. This is in accordance with traffic management standards. At present we’re unable to provide an update of the timeframe for when lane one can be safely re-opened. Please be assured that once all surveys are completed, a repair scheme will be carried out, after which we will be able to reopen the lane. We know how frustrating it can be for drivers to see roadworks with seemingly no work being carried out. The amount of work a driver will see will depend on the time of day they drive through, the weather conditions and the type of work itself. To protect our workforce cones and speed restrictions may remain in place. We apologise for any inconvenience that this delay may cause.
