Large pothole affecting nearside wheels in lane 1 approximately 1 mile before exit for j11. I hit this in the dark and the whole car shuddered. I have a four wheel drive with large wheels and am unsure what damage has been caused to my suspension. Driver's of cars with smaller wheels need to be extra vigilant because hitting this at motorway speed is dangerous. It was not safe for me to stop and investigate so I am unable to comment on size and depth.

Our inspection team have attended this location to assess the issue.
Repairs are prioritised based on the severity of a defect due to the stretch of roads we cover (1665 km) in the Southwest. Our resources must be distributed equally across the whole of our network.
Although we always aim to complete repairs as quickly as possible, timescales do vary as we try to minimise disruption to customers by combining activities into single closures and always ensuring the safety of our people.
We’re currently putting together a patching programme with more resurfacing we need to undertake further along the M5. This work should be undertaken in the next couple of months.
Our team will continue to monitor this defect and intervene should this deteriorate any further.
