Timings on the lights changed

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 13:17, Tue 19 September 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5009864.

Hi for the past month or just a bit more each morning I have noticed the traffic is so much worse by lights on the A 5 island ( near to A34/A460) it is only on green for west bound traffic for 15 seconds so that traffic backs up to churchbridge island and back down th A 5 and through Great Wyrley.

Updates

  • Traffic lights are changing far too quickly, causing a traffic jam around the rest of the islands at Churchbridge. Cars and lorries are blocking exit road from A34 so causing another build up along the Walsall Road to Great Wyrley

  • The timing on these lights is horrendous. Only allowing 6 or 7 vehicles through the green light before changing back to red and it is causing chaos on the A5 and A34 every single morning, accident waiting to happen!!

  • The traffic lights have been out all together today and the traffic is now moving freely, demonstrating that the traffic management by lights out of sync has been the cause of severe disruption of the last month - when reinstated, the traffic light timings need to reviewed for most efficient traffic flows and/or revert back to timings in place in June/July. A failure to do so would be negligent and inconsiderate to road users.

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways.

We're aware of the issues at these traffic lights which were due to a resurfacing scheme in the area. The work was started in August when the traffic loops for these lights were first cut, resulting in the tailbacks of traffic. Unfortunately, due to an emergency these works had to stop and weren't completed. We're due to return to the area by the end of September subject to road space availability to complete the resurfacing. Upon completion of the resurfacing the traffic lights will operate as normal.

    Kind regards

  • Please change back the traffic light timing to its original scheduled timing. The lights are causing havoc with the local traffic and traffic entering from the A5 westward, it’s snarling up traffic from all approaches. It is chaos, please change light timing back
