Why is the inside lane still closed after months with no visible works taking place?

Reported via mobile in the Abandoned Materials (NH) category anonymously at 21:36, Sat 16 September 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 5001314.

The inside lane has been closed for at least two months now and although I use the M3 each day I have never seen anyone working there in daylight hours. If works are not actually taking place why cant the cones be removed and then put out when required? Have you forgotten they are there?! What is actually going on?!

Thanks for your reply..

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the Lack of Apparent Work/Progress .

We apologise for any ongoing delays as a result of the lane 1 closure between junctions 4 and 3 of the M3 which was put in place to allow temporary repair of voids / sink holes. Whilst we have had the lane closure in place we have undertaken further surveys which have identified some concerns that further voiding may exist. To ensure that all of the defects have been identified and repaired we are taking time to undertake further detailed specialist surveys to map the ground material and identify if any further voiding exists. This type of survey takes a while to organise and analyse but its important that we do this to prevent further disruption in the future.

Whilst the lane 1 closure is in place a 50mph speed limit will be applied to the three open lanes to reflect a reduction in the lane capacity, in accordance with the traffic management standards.

To protect the workforce, on occasions road workers could be working out of sight, under a bridge or preparing materials elsewhere. However, to keep the road workers safe, cones and speed restrictions may still be in place.

    Kind regards National Highways
