Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 11:33, Thu 24 August 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4923075.

The traffic lights leading onto the M18 Roundabout from the A631 (westbound) are only on green for approx. 6 seconds before changing back to red. This is causing 2 mile tailbacks to Maltby (not even rush hour).

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways on 24 August 2023 about the traffic lights leading onto the M18 at junction 1. We appreciate the time you've taken to contact us about this.

After investigating your enquiry, we can advise that the recent 278 works by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council have caused damage to the traffic light detectors. This means that the detectors won't detect cars and tailbacks. We've set the traffic lights on a manual timer until this issue has been resolved.

As a result, the local authority is responsible for answering your complaint in this instance as the defect has occurred on their network. We’re in discussions with them to try and have the issue rectified as soon as possible. However, we'd suggest contacting them to resolve this issue. You can contact Rotherham MBC here:

Thank you once again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards National Highways
