Dangerous queues since lanes on slip road changed from 2 to 1.

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 12:18, Mon 31 July 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4842924.

Fast flowing traffic on m18 trying to leave onto junction 3 northbound exit slip, into almost stationery traffic on slip road and a1 onto m18 slip. This causes traffic to have to stop on live lane 1 of m18 whilst traffic ahead merges onto exit slip.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the congestion you’re currently experiencing around J3 of the M18. We appreciate the time you’ve taken to contact us about this.

We can advise that we are looking into the issue you have raised. We are aware of a build-up of congestion at Junction 3 of the M18. We are in early stages of study work to identify mitigation options for pinch points across the country, and junction two to three of the M18 is being considered for further works to ease congestion and improve traffic flows during our next RIS Period (2025-2030). Some of the congestion is also being compounded by the need for improvements to the local road network by Doncaster Council, who do have a scheme in development which is pending funding. We regularly work closely with Doncaster Council to ensure schemes both parties are developing complement each other and offer significant benefits for our customers.
