Updates

  • A while ago, we in conjunction with SES (Safety Engineering and Standard division) carried out a review of the route confirmatory signs on the A30 and A38 in Devon and Cornwall. Requirements highlighted by LTN 1/94 of The Design and use of Directional Informatory Signs states that: All forward destinations shown on final advance direction sign should appear on the next route confirmatory sign and route confirmatory signs should normally be provided after every junction) were also part of the discussion.

As part of the review, it was agreed to provide route confirmatory signs only after major junctions as oppose to after every junction, hence the sign was removed at this location. LTN 1/94 was published in 1994 and in need of updating as times and technology have moved on. At the time the document was written, satellite navigation wasn’t as readily available to the general public as it is nowadays, which can provide knowledgeable information to the driver on journey time and distance.
