Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4731019.

Cycle Pathway which runs parallel to the A12. The incident happend on the 24th June at 0840 AM. Location as marked between Witham and Kelvedon. Incident happened as a consequence of; Cycle pathway partly block by thick bushy vegetation, approx 2.5 mtrs high, it was growing across the pathway, from left to right, this narrowed the pathway to cycle through. To my right a crashbarrier was ending, it to was narrowing the pathway but from the RHS. it tapered into the ground at an angle of approx 45 degrees, not following a straightline Alongside the crashbarrier, was a small spikey shrub pls a large amont of gravel and uneven ground, the uneven ground had grass/vegetation growing from it. It was not clear to see where exactly the crashbarrier came to an end, it was partly obscured by; grass, gravel, uneven ground. I have photographic evidence of it all. I crashed into the storm drain, landing 2 to 3 feet from the A12, there was no protection from the traffic, lorries, cars and so on. I have injuries to; both knees, puncture wound to upper arm LHS, swelling to both hands, unable to make a fist, little movement, stiffness to both legs, discomfort to both legs. My bike is also damaged.

Essex County Council have told me the cycle pathway is a National Highways Asset as is the A12

Updates

  • Thank you for informing our Customer Contact Centre about the overgrown vegetation on the A12 at Rivenhall End. I appreciate you taking the time to report this.

We carry out regular inspections of our roads and cut back trees and vegetation where we find that it’s limiting visibility of road signs, traffic signals, at junctions or the view ahead. I’ve passed your observations to our maintenance team. They will inspect the area and if necessary, arrange for the vegetation to be cut.

Thank you again for contacting us. If you need more information about this, please feel free to contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or by email at info@nationalhighways.co.uk.
