Updates

  • Thank you for contacting the National Highways customer contact centre via Fix My Street on 27 June 2023 regarding the speed limit on the A1 Birtley to Coal House scheme. The A1 Birtley to Coal House scheme has a speed limit of 50mph, this is not 40mph as 50mph is the safest recommended speed throughout major highways roadworks. We try to increase the speed limit on other projects, only where it is deemed safe to do so. Please see further information regarding the highest safe speed limits in roadworks. Thank you again for contacting us. If you have any further enquiries or concerns regarding the A1 Birtley to Coal House scheme, please don’t hesitate to contact us again by email on A1BirtleytoCoalHouse@highwaysengland.co.uk or by telephone on 0300 123 5000. You can also find more information on our scheme website by using this link https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ our-roads/ yorkshire-and-north-east/ a1-birtley-to-coal-house/ .
