Reported via mobile in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 11:33, Fri 23 June 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4708019.

We live behind the fence of the M1 we did get a letter the other week to say road works would commence soon & take approx a year which I understand. But how there has not been an accident yet I’ll never know & the beeping due to people being cut up has increased beyond anything I’ve ever known in the 3years we’ve lived here. It’s becoming constant & yes we live next to the M1 but the noise has never been on this scale. I know there’s nothing you can probably do but if we’ve got a year or so of this it’s going to be a very long time for us.

  • Dear Sir or Madam, Thank you for using fixmystreet.com to raise a query with National Highways regarding noise from traffic on the M1 motorway in South Yorkshire.

I’m extremely sorry to hear that noise from traffic is disturbing you. We try very hard not to be a nuisance to our neighbours when we’re working close by. I fully appreciate your frustration at the level of noise you’re experiencing.

Our traffic managers continue to actively monitor the flow of traffic between junctions 32 and 35a. They’re aware of some delays during peak periods and they continue to take steps to mitigate any problem areas wherever practicable to do so.

Within the last three weeks I can advise that the scheme has also passed a Road Safety Audit, with no comments. Our temporary traffic management is regularly audited by National Highways and daily audits are carried out by the Traffic Safety Control Officer.

I’ll add your location to our noise map and ensure that you’re kept updated with any potentially disruptive works happening in the vicinity of your property throughout construction.

The site team have been reminded to work considerately at night time, and of the need to minimise disruption as much as possible when working close to our neighbours.

If we can be of further help, or if you’d like to discuss our works further, please contact us either on 0300 123 5000 or by e-mail at EAretrofit@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit our website at www.nationalhighways.co.uk or follow @HighwaysYorks on Twitter for all our latest updates.

    Kind regards Helen Sheldon
