Traffic lights still NOT working right

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 15:55, Fri 16 June 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4681557.

Tinsley Viaduct is backed up again because the traffic lights are out of sync, this has been going on for well over a week now, why has nothing been sorted yet?

  • Thank you for your report.

The problem at this location is that Northern Power Grid who look after the mains supply in the area have an ongoing problem with supply. There has been a back up generator put in place to try and stop the loss of power, which in turn causes the lights at Tinsley to go off.

A further problem when the power goes down without notice is that it can affect the systems when power is restored. This means engineers have to be sent to reset the technology that controls the lights. As the power failures are unexpected and unplanned this makes it very difficult to predict when engineers are needed.

In an interim measure the control room have a running log where patrols are deployed overnight to check the sequencing and that everything is in order prior to the morning peak, the timing has been done like this as the problems appear to be occurring in the night.

Thank you again for getting in touch and I hope this answers your query.

    Kind regards
