40mph limit makes entering A14 ( travelling eastbound) dangerous

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 18:34, Wed 14 June 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4673580.

As you join the A14 the traffic is travelling at 60mph and then immediately rapidly breaks to 40mph, so there is very little space between vehicles. It feels dangerous and it would be better if the 40mph speed limit was in place before the junction.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning the 40mph speed limit. Unfortunately an accident occurred at this location and a temporary repair has been made to the safety fencing that was damaged. The replacement permanent safety fencing has been ordered from the manufacturer as it is bespoke to the bridge itself.

We plan to start this work Thursday 15 June and expect it to be completed, the road reopened to traffic and the speed limit across the bridge returned to 60mph by Saturday 17 June. All work will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am, weather permitting.

Thank you again for contacting us.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
