Traffic light phasing

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 15:34, Tue 13 June 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4667737.

M2 London bound J5 exit slip to Stockbury roundabout. The lights are holding the traffic too long this causes queues to build on the main London bound carriageway particularly at peak times. Sat in this queuing is extremely dangerous with passing traffic travelling at motorway speeds.

Updates

  • Thank you for your email submitted via fix my street, regarding the M2 junction 5 improvements scheme. The build-up of traffic onto the M2 London bound is something we are aware of and have been discussing internally. We decided against making a snap decision to change the lights at the Stockbury roundabout as soon as the problem arose, and we have been continually monitoring the situation. As with all our traffic management, we will continue to monitor the build-up of traffic before making any changes to the current set up.

Thank you again for contacting us, if you have any further queries in relation to this scheme, please feel free to contact us again at M2J5@nationalhighways.co.uk. Kind regards Holly Woodruff on behalf of Daniel Rollinson Project Manager M2 Junction 5 Improvements Regional Investment Programme South East National Highways Web: https://highwaysengland.co.uk/

  • Lorry’s that are removing spoil from the stockbury Road improvement are pushing into the sheerness bound lane at the point the road divides for the coast bound M2 instead of queuing in the sheerness bound lane, as all the other drivers are doing. This as witnessed is causing cars to back up, and is causing a danger to other road users, on the M2 coast bound Carriage way, they are blocking the lane until they force they way into the sherness bound carriage way, they then turn off into the road works. This is dangerous and intimidating for other road users, when big lorries push in to another lane in a long queue of cars. Why is this not being dealt dealt with.
