40 mph speed limit

Why is there a 40 mph speed limit when wind speed is so low, ie: Monday 5th June 2023, wind speed 15 mph?

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the speed limit on the Orwell bridge. Unfortunately an accident occurred at this location and a temporary repair was made to the safety fencing that was damaged. A permanent repair to the safety fencing is planned and we aim to complete the repair by mid June 2023. Until the repair has been completed the 40 mph speed limit will remain in force for the safety of motorists using the bridge.
