Dangerous road surface J8-J10 M6

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 10:29, Sun 21 May 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4578545.

The road surface on the M6 between J8 and J10 is dangerous. Every approx 5m there is a join in the road surface which is raised from the rest of the road. These joins are akin to speed bumps but due to high use they are eroded in some areas to leave deep cracks and potholes. I find them concerning when driving, but as a motorbike rider, I have serious concern for my safety when using this section of the motorway due to the road surface. It has been ongoing for many years but I have noticed it has become particularly bad over the last 2 months.

  • Any chance of an update? The new go to asphalt that you put on the motorways is extremely dangerous and not fit for purpose…..the people who have signed this off should be ashamed and accountable…the spray….. the water retention….not able to see the dividing lines…..due to the water retention can’t see the puddles which cause aquaplaning, when dark makes things far more dangerous….then when the sun is shining can’t see much at all!!! I’ve witnessed people aquaplaning off the motorway and into the central reservation many times…..we need answers as this has been happening for years!!! Also the longevity of this new asphalt seems very poor as on the M66 which is about 6 years old has defects/pot holes already -this is a massive problem and will end up costing lives definitely!!!
