Flytipping next to M11

Reported via mobile in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 16:23, Fri 19 May 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4574713.

Huge sacks of (perhaps) highway construction litter are a hideous blott on the landscape. In strong winds, plastic sheeting breaks loose and could easily blow onto the M11, blinding drivers, heading north. This is north of Jct 8, and a bit north of Stansted Hall, right next to the motorway.

Updates

  • Thank you for informing our Customer Contact Centre about litter on the M11 at Stansted Mountfitchet. I appreciate you taking the time to bring this matter to our attention. We share your concerns that litter on our roads is unsightly as well as a risk to wildlife and the environment. It’s a huge challenge to keep roads free of litter and debris. If people didn’t drop litter in the first place it wouldn’t need to be picked up. We carry out regular inspections of our motorways and schedule litter-picking activities for any areas requiring attention. Your concerns have been passed to our maintenance team. They will inspect the area and if it falls below the required standard, arrange for the litter to be cleared. Kind regards
