Incorrect 50mph speed limit signs

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 08:32, Fri 28 April 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4495174.

There are a bunch of physical 50mph signs southbound towards J3, and then northbound from J3. There are zero roadworks going on, and nothing on the digital displays. So this just causes confusion and a safety issue as some cars will adhere to the signs and others will just ignore. The signs have been there all week. If there are overnight works, then fine, just cover up the signs during the day

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning 50mph speed limit signage on the M3.

The temporary current speed limit of 50mph on the M3 has been in place whilst we undertake overnight technology works in the area. To ensure the safety of road users, we kept the signage and speed in place 24/7 to provide consistency to the flow of traffic whilst these works have been undertaken.

We acknowledge that we should have put some signage up to advise of what works were taking place and for this we apologise. I’m pleased to advise that the works are now complete, and the 50mph speed limit signs have been removed.
