M3 NORTHBOUND J4-J2 signs inaccurate

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 05:14, Thu 27 April 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4490883.

Signs 60-50-40, 1 closed lane at M25 to 2 closed lanes and saying M25 closed at J2 when it actually isn’t. Goes from 2 lanes shut before J2 and 40mph to the next gantry being BLANK and doing nothing. END instruction not until half way to J1. Not the first time this happens and can make it dangerous for road users as no instruction means still doing 40 and not every one does this.

  • Thank you for reporting this to us.

I've looked into this closure and the associated signs, and can confirm the slip roads from the M3 northbound onto the M25 in both directions at junction 2, were closed for overnight roadworks.

The signals were cleared once we received confirmation from the contractors that the carriageway was fully clear of all workforce and equipment.

Drivers should obey the last speed limit that was displayed until they are notified that the speed limit has ended, or that a different speed limit now applies instead. A blank signal after an active signal does not mean that the earlier speed limit no longer applies.

We let our customers know when temporary speed limits have been lifted, by signing on the next available signal to convey that the restriction has ended. Sometimes though, this may be a ‘hard sign’ rather than an electronic sign, as is often seen at the end of roadworks.

    State changed to: Fixed
