Asbestos dumped

Reported via desktop in the Flytipping (NH) category anonymously at 11:29, Mon 24 April 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4479269.

Whilst in the field next to the M6 I discovered that a full lorry load of asbestos roofing material had been tipped down the banking. it is about half way up the banking. I noticed this off my tractor in the field and the rubbish cannot be seen from the M6 unless seen by someone walking on the hard shoulder. Obviously the tipper did not want his work to be found. This needs urgent attention as it will pollute the water course close by

  • Further to your report concerning concerning asbestos fly tipped on the M6 embankment. We inspected the location today. The asbestos sheeting appears been there for some time. It's not on the National Highways network and there no access from our network to it. The only access is through a farmers field. Google Street view from the M6 NB shows the rubbish pile has been there a considerable time as it's on the June 2021 Street View. It is visible now because a boundary fence scheme went though last year and cleared a lot of vegetation in the area. The asbestos sheets are about 10 ft from the River which is lower than the field, so we have no major concerns about pollution. You may wish to contact your local authority for assistance with removal.

    Kind regards
