Thank you for contacting the National Highways customer contact centre via Fix My Street on 23 April 2023 regarding the potholes on the northbound and southbound carriages of the A1.
We’re sorry to hear you’ve experienced potholes whilst travelling on the A1.
Previously, we have been temporarily repairing the potholes on the carriageway across the scheme until we could arrange for a more permanent solution. We have now implemented a more permanent solution which involves resurfacing small sections of the A1 affected by the potholes. These works were carried out on Sunday 16 April 2023 and Sunday 23 April 2023. Going forward, we will be repairing the potholes when they are reported to us until we can re-surface the entire scheme in 2024.
We apologise again for any inconvenience caused and we hope the information provided has been helpful to you. If you have any further enquiries or concerns regarding the A1 Birtley to Coal House scheme, please don’t hesitate to contact us again by email on A1BirtleytoCoalHouse@highwaysengland.co.uk or by telephone on 0300 123 5000.
