Heavy traffic through village due to A1 delays

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 03:13, Thu 20 April 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4464131.

We are experiencing heavy traffic in terms of volume and size of vehicles coming through the village due to the delays on the northbound A1 due to the roadworks at Wentbridge . This is likely to be ann issue for at least 6 months. Access to the village is a single carriageway road with blind bends and traffic is driving dangerously fast without due consideration to pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders and oncoming vehicles. Could signs be put at the entrance to the village on the A638 and A1 advising village access only such as have been put near East Hardwick on the A639?

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting us regarding the traffic through your village.

Please accept my apologies that you are experiencing increased traffic volumes due to the works on the A1. We have worked extremely hard over the last six months to highlight the upcoming works in an attempt to encourage motorists to avoid the A1 in general and instead utilise the M1 and the M18. Unfortunately there are still drivers who are making a decision to leave the A1 and use their satnavs to find a quicker route.

I have arranged with our traffic management team to have signage installed to discourage drivers from passing through Skelbrooke. These will read “No through route. Local access only” and will be placed at the junction of the A1 and Bannister Lane and also at the junction of A638 Doncaster Road and Hazel Lane. These will be installed tonight.

I am hopeful that these will have the desired effect and lower traffic levels for you.

Thank you again for contacting us.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
