Damaged barrier still not fixed

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 18:10, Sun 9 April 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4417555.

Damaged barrier on the eastbound carriageway bridge over the river Hamble still not fixed after months. One lane still coned off. Entrance onto motorway because of closed lane is hazardous. Why has this minimal damage not been fixed?

  • Thank you for your report concerning the parapet replacement at Hamble Bridge.

Upon assessing the damage as a result of the traffic accident on this bridge, we've discovered that these parapets are near their end of life and need to be completely replaced to ensure the safety of road users on this bridge.

We’re currently assessing what requirements the new parapets will need and designing them accordingly. We’ll then need to order the necessary replacement parts before we can install them. Currently, we’re aiming to do this installation in September, however this schedule is variable and subject to change. The current traffic management will remain in place until the parapet is safely replaced.

We thank you for your patience whilst we resolve this issue.
