M4 westbound signage for M5 Northbound

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 18:31, Fri 7 April 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4410341.

Due to the current road works the signage for M4 westbound traffic being directed to the M5 Northbound is at best unclear and at worst completely wrong and dangerous. The over head signs direct traffic to the wrong lanes then to at the very last moment changes the lane for M5 North traffic. An accident will happen soon and is a danger to life. The lane signage for M5 South, M5 north, M4 West needs to be corrected ASAP before a serious incident occurs due to traffic changing lanes at the last moment due to the signage.

Updates

  • As at 16 April’23, the signage is still a problem. Had a very narrow miss joining the M5 North lane having been directed onto the M4 west lane for M5 North by overhead signage.

  • I have just found this post after making a complaint to the Highways Agency regards the lack of clear signage to M5 north / midlands. Extremely dangerous. 3rd March 2024
