Road surface not re-instated correctly after roadworks

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 21:04, Mon 3 April 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4395255.

Workmen working for Gigaclear have dug two trenches across the A120 carriageway in Marks Tey where Church Lane meets the A120. Despite only being completed in the last week, the tarmac used to fill in the trench has started coming out of the trench already and this will very soon be a dangerous and damaging pothole across the carriageway. Before it started coming out, the tarmac had been laid in such a way as to create a raised road surface and it was not flat to the existing road surface when re-instated. The work has created an inferior and potentially dangerous road surface. This will urgently need re-laying to prevent further deterioration.

Updates

  • Thank you for informing our Customer Contact Centre about the road condition on the carriageway at Marks Tey, where Church Lane meets the A120.

We appreciate you taking the time to report this. I’ve passed your observations to our maintenance team for further inspection and investigation.

Potholes and a damaged road surface can be hazardous and we have processes in place to ensure they are made safe quickly. We carry out frequent safety patrols to monitor the condition of the road. Any potholes or defects we find are recorded. Repairs are then prioritised based on the severity of the defect.

In this case we'll need to confirm who's responsible for the damage and if necessary request that the reinstatement is completed to a satisfactory standard.

    Kind regards
