Request for acoustic barriers along m58 approaching Orrell Interchange parallel to Collisdene Road

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 20:46, Mon 3 April 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4395176.

Tree's have recently been cut down along the motorway edge which has meant that the noise level has increased significantly. Also expect the noise level to increase further once the new M58 link road opens.

  • Thank you for your report concerning a request for acoustic barriers following tree works on the M58.

While trees may appear to deflect noise, this is not the case. For trees to be effective sound barriers, they must be close planted, evergreen and have foliage that reaches to the ground. Any noise reduction provided by trees is minimal, and is purely secondary to their environmental benefit.
