Change in traffic light timings - potential safety issue

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 07:34, Wed 29 March 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4370833.

As of Monday 28 March 2023, it was apparent that the timings of the traffic lights on Junction 19 roundabout had changed, much to the detriment of the traffic flow both off the motorway and around the roundabout itself.

On the evening of Monday 28, southbound traffic was queued entirely over the Avonmouth bridge, resulting in delays of circa 20 minutes compared to a normal evening (around 17:10) - it was clear from waiting in the queue the the cycle time had changed meaning traffic was being held much longer on the slipway, resulting in these queues, which are incredibly dangerous, especially with the number of vehicles braking in the main carriageway (M5 south) to push into the queue at the last possible moment.

For the last two mornings, entering the motorway northbound from Portbury village via the A369, the delay in getting onto the roundabout is also much, much worse; similarly, the cycle time of the lights is clearly to blame, as a queue of traffic sat waiting at a red light for a prolonged period whilst no traffic was going around the roundabout under a green light (highly frustrating), then when a flow of traffic going around the roundabout finally appeared, the lights changed resulting in others being completely unnecessarily sat on the roundabout.

Please, please, please can you (or via the controlling authority) revert the sequence to that which was in use as of Friday 25 March (and earlier) - I'm unsure whether this changed prior to, or during the weekend, but it has created real traffic issues that include safety on the carriageway being adversely affected.
