  • Thank you for your report concerning road markings at Junction 4a of the M3.

    The junction has suitable advanced direction map types signage to direct traffic.

    Traffic signs Manual Chapter 5 paragraph 6.7.1 provides guidance where lane destination markings and arrows would be suitable.

    The M3 Westbound Junction 4a exit slip has a 3-arm roundabout which is the responsibility of the local Highway Authority. This layout of junction would not normally warrant the need for the addition of lane destination markings if suitable signage is already provided. Addition of such restriction may affect the capacity of the junction and its movements.

    Following the highway code at this junction is appropriate (section 184-187).
