A14 Westbound carriageway, Lane 1, between Stowmarket and Woolpit.

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 05:46, Sat 18 March 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4327151.

There is some kind of road damage/pothole on lane 1 of the westbound carriageway between Stowmarket and Woolpit. When I’ve struck it at approx 70mph it has caused immediate damage to my car by way of dislodging my windscreen and potentially other as yet unidentified damage. At the time of the incident it was dark so I had limited visibility and due to speed of road I was unable to return to locate the exact road damage/pothole which caused my incident as there are several “lips” connecting road surfaces and potholes along this short section of carriageway.

Updates

  • I can confirm there is some serious road damage in lane one as I have hit the same spot cracking my alloy and leaving me waiting for recovery.

  • Update from original poster - I’ve now driven the route again in day light (on the 18/03) and have found the exact location and am happy the location is reasonably correct as per the map. There’s a section of road that appears to have already been repaired which is severely crumbling away and has left a significantly deep and blunt edge of a pothole. If not repaired ASAP this will cause serious damage to many cars. Especially those with large alloys and run flat tyres. I’ve since found a serious bulge in my tyre from the incident which is having to be replaced and my alloy is being inspected for damage today (20/03). This location is so dangerous I’ve also phoned National Highway to report it, as I feel it would be extremely dangerous should a motorcyclist hit it.
