Dangerous plastic sheeting blowing onto van windscreen

Reported via mobile in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 14:24, Tue 14 March 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4312386.

Yesterday a large sheet of plastic blew onto my vans screen obscuring my vision. I can see there is a lot of rubbish and plastic sheeting on the motorway and when it's windy becomes a serious danger to life.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about the rubbish on the M11.

I'm sorry to hear about the sheet of plastic that blew onto your windscreen, obscuring your vision. This must have been frightening for you.

We appreciate you taking the time to report this.

We share your concerns, and also acknowledge that litter on our roads is unsightly as well as a risk to wildlife and the environment. It’s a huge challenge to keep roads free of litter and debris. If people didn’t drop litter in the first place it wouldn’t need to be picked up.

We carry out regular inspections of our motorways and schedule litter-picking activities for any areas requiring attention.

Your concerns have been passed to our maintenance team. They will inspect the area and if it falls below the required standard, arrange for the litter to be cleared.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
