Traffic light phasing heading onto the J8/9 roundabout from the A404

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4270507.

For approximately the last week or so the phasing has changed for the traffic lights controlling traffic entering the roundabout from the A404. There are now substantial tailbacks caused by the limited time the lights remain green, causing delays and frustration. Please can this be rectified as previously this has not been an issue.

  • Thank you for your report concerning issues with traffic light phasing at J8/9 of the A404(M).

    We've identified a communications fault with these lights which may be the cause of the phasing issues, and have arranged for an electrician to attend to the fault within the next 48 hours.

  • 07 Mar 2023 - This is still a problem; at approx. 07:15 I can now expect to queue for approx. 10 mins from 9A on the A404M to enter the roundabout of the M4 at jct 8 / 9. The phasing of the lights is still only allowing a few vehicles through at a time.

  • The traffic lights controlling traffic from the A404 onto the M4 roundabout are still causing extensive tail-backs on the A404. Wednesday 8th March.

  • Can you let us know when this issue is going to be fixed - causing serious disruption to all road users - over 10 min delays for no reason!

  • When is this issue going to get fixed? The green phase this morning was 7 or 8 seconds compared with about 12 seconds over the last week or so, so I imagine that someone has done something but has made it worse. People need to get to work and these unnecessary delays are unacceptable.

  • Just a note for all you who have commented on this issue, it seems that National Highways do not see the updates, it states above the Update text box: "Please note that updates are not sent to National Highways". So, pretty pointless then really, I've opened a new report.
