Litter isn't being cleared on the A2 - 23/2

Reported via desktop in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 09:48, Thu 23 February 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4257055.

On 26th January when the A2 was inspected, you advised this would be actioned within 28 days. It has reached 28 days now and no litter clearance works have commenced. It has been piling up for months now and looks like a bin.

Updates

  • We're sorry to hear about littering along the A2. Please be assured that litter is a serious issue, and we share your concern about the amount of rubbish that is discarded on our roads.

We carry out regular litter inspections along the A2 west from Dartford to the M2, with our most recent inspection on 26 January. Following our inspector’s recommendations, we’ve instructed our maintenance partners to arrange litter picks, starting on the eastbound carriageway including slips. In addition to litter picking, other maintenance such as grass cutting and gully clearance will be carried out.

To date we've removed 315 bags of litter from the main carriageway together with numerous larger items of debris and 400 bags from slip roads.

We're continuing to secure suitable traffic management to allow us to close slip roads to carry out picking but have been hampered by availability. This is required to provide a safe working environment for the crews. Once the eastbound verges and slips have been picked, which we anticipate will be by mid March we will turn our attention westbound.

    Kind regards
