Old Road Markings still left between Junction 11 and 12

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 10:00, Fri 17 February 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4240392.

Two sets of road markings are still on the M56 motorway heading towards the direction of Chester between Junction 11 and 12, between the slow and middle lanes, which is causing confusion amidst drivers and nearly causing accidents, as the one lot of markings left over from the roadworks done when they installed the new bridge last year, by Preston Brook haven't been blacked out

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about old road markings on the M56 at junction 11. Last year, we installed temporary narrow lanes on the M56 motorway to create a safe area for our team to build supporting walls for the new bridge. As you know, the narrow lanes have now been removed and the carriageway returned to normal operation. To do this, we needed to paint over the temporary white lines with black paint. Sometimes this paint can create what is known as a ‘ghosting effect’, which is when the paint reflects light, giving the appearance of a white line. While we do everything that we can to stop this from happening, such as using textured paint and installing reflective studs, we’re aware it can still happen in certain circumstances, and can cause confusion for some motorists.

I’m pleased to say we will be resurfacing this section of carriageway in summer 2023, which will mean the temporary lines will be permanently removed and new lines installed to clearly mark the lanes.

If you feel there are other issues we should be aware of, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We’d be happy to investigate. Please email our 24hr Customer Contact Centre at info@nationalhighways.co.uk or call us on 0300 123 5000.

    Kind regards,

    National Highways
