Dangerous Road Markings M27 J7-J8

Reported via mobile in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 00:53, Fri 17 February 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4239756.

In some conditions (low sun) it is impossible to see the correct lane markings (white) as the old ones (burned black) stand out more on the light coloured concrete. Sometimes it is only possible to see if you are correctly in lane by looking in the rear view mirror. It is quite common to see three or four cars in the wrong place at once. Yesterday I though the car next to me was straddling my lane only to find out I was straddling theirs. This needs sorting before a serious accident occurs. When it does, the Highways Agency will be entirely to blame as they are aware of the issue.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning faded road markings on the M27.

We currently have plans to completely resurface the concrete stretch of the M27, including repainting markings. We aim to increase the visual distinction between the markings and the road itself, as well as reducing the visibility of joint materials which may cause confusion. This scheme will add a thick layer of asphalt on top of the concrete that’s currently in place there, and it is due to start in Spring 2023, lasting approximately 12-18 months to complete. Up-to-date information can be found at the following link as we make it available:
